Lot 3442

1870. Pattern Quarter dollar, J-895, P-1002, R-7. Silver, plain edge. Standard Silver. . J-895. NGC graded Proof 67. One of the finest graded of this popular Standard Silver issue, the obverse shows the familiar head of Liberty which is accentuated by heavy frost from the dies and contrasted by the mirror fields. On the reverse, the wreath is also exceptional in quality, fully struck by the dies and well frosted. The fields and surfaces are very well preserved, keeping this in the high end gem class. This is the finest graded by NGC, and alone in this grade category, and we note PCGS has only graded 1 this high too, making it tied for the finest known of perhaps a dozen in all. A rare opportunity for the specialist.
Estimated Value $5,000 - 6,000.

Realized $4,600
