The White House Gallery of Official Portraits of the Presidents (The Gravure Company of America, New York, 1901[?]) 16 x 20¼". Leather cover; fabric ribbon threaded through slits in front and back cover is held in place on front cover with 3" diameter leather presidential seal; gilded top edge, rough-cut right edge. Bookplate is partially printed, accomplished in manuscript, it reads, "White House Gallery of the Official Portraits of the Presidents / This copy registered and numbered 1257 / Allotted to J.H. Filmer / The Gravure Company of America / Jany 23, 1903" and signed by the company secretary. Rubbing to front and back cover with some color loss; the seal has three areas of significant leather loss but is generally in fair condition; scattered, minor paper loss at extreme edges of front end paper possibly a result of very faint dampstaining that extends into the first four pages of the book; tissue paper at John Adams' portrait has a large tear. The pages are tight, the portraits are all in excellent condition -- if it weren't for the minor flaws mentioned above, this book would rate very fine.
Exquisite portraits and brief essays about each president make this a truly remarkable book that would enhance any collector's shelf.
