Lot 1560

Clingman, Thomas Lanier. Stereoview three-quarter portrait of Clingman in uniform, matted and framed with a clipped signature to 12 x 11½". Clingman sits with his right hand inside his jacket. There is some toning to the edges and minor, faint foxing throughout. Clingman's name and rank are inked in a neat hand at the top right edge of the image. The portrait is mounted on a yellow card with "American & Foreign" printed at the left edge and "Portrait Gallery" at the right. A strong signature mounted beneath the image lies next to the top edge of a free frank postmark from Washington, indicating this clipped signature is likely from his days as a U.S. Senator. Overall, very good condition.

Stereoview images of Confederate generals are scarce and we are delighted to offer two in this sale! (See the Imboden image below).
Estimated Value $1,000 - 2,000.

Realized $776
