Lot 1558

Butler, Matthew Calbraith. Signature and rank with date mounted and framed with a tinted, uniformed (in the rank of colonel) unpublished bust portrait carte de visite to 9 x 12". The signature ("M.C. Butler / Maj Gen'l U.S. Vols / Washington D.C. / Feb'y 3rd 99") is on a 4 x 2½" ivory card. There is very faint toning at the very edges, otherwise the card is in fine condition. The cdv shows toning and scattered foxing, but the clarity of the image is wonderful. Overall, this piece is in very good condition.

A wonderful set, emblematic of Butler's long military and political career.
Estimated Value $1,000 - 1,500.
