Buchanan, Franklin. Document Signed ("Frankn Buchanan / Commander") matted and framed with two cartes de visite to 17 x 17". As Commander of the U.S.S. Vincennes. One page, folio, aboard ship, February 1843. Being a log sheet from the U.S.S. Vincennes, endorsed by Buchanan. Rough right edge where it was removed from its book, faint foxing and toning. Bold signature, fine condition.

The top cdv is a portrait of Buchanan in his Confederate uniform, on a cream card with double line border, taken during the War. The lower photograph is the Matthew Brady image of Buchanan in his USN uniform, reportedly this image was taken in May 1861, immediately after he resigned his U.S. commission. Removed from frame for inspection.

This is really an outstanding piece honoring a man who was a hero to many.
Estimated Value $2,000 - 2,500.
