Lot 753

1795. 13 leaves below eagle. PCGS graded Details of About Uncirculated, Repaired. Still a lovely coin. Well struck. An example with semi proof like fields. In our opinion, it looks like a nice XF coin. Bidders should look at this coin and send to another grading service for further opinions as it looks wholesome enough to be straight graded. An incredibly important first year of issue type coin, the "Eagle" or ten dollar gold coin was the largest and most valuable gold denomination planned by the founding fathers. Hence great pride went into the production of the dies and planning for this denomination. Liberty is portrayed wearing a loose cap with part of her hair wrapped up curiously in front of the cap, with most of her hair falling down along her neck and shoulder. She is surrounded by stars, with LIBERTY above and the date below her bust. For the reverse a small eagle is standing on a branch, its wings outstretched, and it clutches in its beak a small laurel wreath. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA surrounds the eagle. No denomination is given as all such coins were weighed to determine their value in commerce, unless on was readily familiar with the coin at hand. Needless to say, this is an important and high grade offering which must be carefully evaluated by prospective buyers (PCGS # 8551) Estimated Value $25,000 - UP

Realized $46,800
