Attica, Athens. Silver Tetradrachm (17.17 g). ca. 454-404 BC. Helmeted head of Athena right, frontal eye. Reverse: AΘE, owl standing right, head facing; above to left, olive-spray with berry and crescent; all within a deep incuse square. Kroll 8; Svoronos pl. 11, 12. SNG Copenhagen 31-40; HGC 4, 1597. An amazing coin! Boldly struck on a huge flan (24 x 29 mm). Fine style, excellent metal with original of mint luster quite evident and a full crest showing; all, delicately toned. Superb Extremely. It is the remarkable reverse impression that is so unusual. The owl appears in 3-D,
ready to leap off the flan! This lovely tetradrachm is one of the most spectacular specimens from the hoard! Estimated Value $2,500 - UP
