Lot 769

1795. Centered bust. PCGS graded EF-40. Premium Quality. Housed in a first generation holder. A frosty coin. Untoned. There were two obverse dies engraved of the new Draped Bust design in late 1795 for silver dollars, the first one the head punch was placed too far to the left, but coinage continued as die steel was precious and production was needed. On this example the head was well centered on the die, and a more balanced appearance is evident in the design work. The reverse shows the small eagle perched on clouds with his wings outstretched. He is encircled by a wreath of an olive branch and a palm branch. This design lasted over four dated years, but began at the tail end of 1795 and ended in the early months of 1798. An important offering for the collector or dealer (PCGS # 6858) Estimated Value $5,000 - 5,500
Ex The America Collection.

Realized $13,800
