Gifted to prominent officials and elite athletes from this historic Olympiad Participation medal for the Games of the First Olympiad in Athens. The design is also the same for the bronze participation medals issued but the gilt copper version are far more scarce. Nike, winged goddess of victory, seated with rising phoenix Acropolis in background. Reverse; Laurel surrounds 5-line Greek Olympic inscription. Pop 1; Only One graded by PCGS.
