Hedy Lamarr: Early Signed 10 x 13" Portrait Photo Dated 1941. A Stunning Beauty, Actress and "The Brilliant Mind of Hollywood" Scarce (1914-2000) Austrian born film actress who skyrocketed to fame during the Golden Age of Hollywood due to her talent and most especially her star magnetism on screen. Her big break was in the film ALGIERS with Charles Boyer and any many MGM hits after including BOOM TOWN, WHITE CARGO and with Paramount, her biggest in Cecil B. DeMille's SAMSON & DELILAH. And of course her name lives on in the running gag in BLAZING SADDLES; "Not Hedy, it's Hedly Lamarr!"

Very scarce early autograph on a vintage original B & W portrait photo, matte finish inscribed "To Toskon Ted, Sincerely Hedy Lamarr, 1941" in black fountain pen ink

But the remarkable success of Lamarr that only became public in the past 20 years was her work as an inventor, an offshoot to conquer boredom in between filming. A complex bit of technology, but Lamarr and her close friend, composer George Anthiel set about creating a system so radio controlled torpedoes during WWII could not be jammed. She funded the research and filed for the patent. The principles of their work are incorporated into Bluetooth and GPS technology and are similar to methods used in legacy versions of CDMA and Wi-Fi. This work led to their induction into the National Inventors Hall of Fame posthumously in 2014. Estimated Value $1,250 - 2,000
Certifiicate of Authenticity by RR Auctions Catalog 422.
