Lot 541

1874 Liberty Seated Dime. Arrows. PCGS graded Proof 65. A quintessential Benson coin that boasts electric blue toning forming a crescent moon on the right side, fading to bright yellow gold at the centers over the frosted devices. The reverse similar, with the deep blue enveloping the wreath while the centers are ruby red to violet. Identifiable by a tiny planchet flake above the right side of the wreath, just right of the tip. Die file lines extend from the upper left obverse letters, as made. All 1874 with Arrows coins were struck with smiling arrows, which point upward, instead of the horizontal arrows seen on 1873 dimes. Stunning in every way. PCGS has graded 15 this high, with 9 graded higher.
Estimated Value $4,000 - 5,000.
From the Benson collection and purchased from James Macallister on March 31, 1944 as part of a set from 1858 to 1915 for $195.00.

Realized $13,800
