Lot 54

1856 Flying Eagle Cent. Proof 64+. This is the Snow-2 variety with the projection down from the center of U in UNITED and high leaves around CENT, and a center dot on the left top serif of the N of that same word. Boldly struck, with sharp details on all the devices, including the feathertips and wings of the eagle, and the wreath details on the reverse. No trace is seen of the recut 5, and we note a short lint mark above the eagle's eye and the wing above in the field. We note light golden toning on the reverse, the obverse brighter. A rare coin that has gotten a lot more expensive over the years now that the Beck hoard has been distributed. An important offering for the specialist.
Estimated Value $12,500 - 15,000.
