Lot 533

1868 Liberty Seated Dime. PCGS graded Proof 65. Electric blue rims with deep gold in the fields combine to further enhance the deeply frosted devices. This dazzling array of color is the result of nearly 60 years of storage in the famous Wayte Raymond cardboard coin pages. As noted, most of these proofs were purchased in 1944, put in the albums, and stayed there until they were brought to our offices by Dr. Benson. The toning that resulted is simply awe inspiring and must be seen to be appreciated. We note trivial faint hairlines keeping this coin just short of perfection. PCGS has graded 18 this high, with 3 graded higher (all PR-66).
Estimated Value $1,200 - 1,400.
From the Benson collection and purchased from James Macallister on March 31, 1944 as part of a set from 1858 to 1915 for $195.00.

Realized $4,485
