Lot 1501

1901 Morgan Dollar. PCGS graded MS-63. What happened to all the 1901 Mint State dollars? Glancing at the PCGS Population Report shows a plunge in the number graded as you scroll down to the date 1901. Obviously, no bags were found stuffed with prooflike Morgans of this date. Further, few were saved, the turn of the century cluster of 1900 coins had been held aside, but no one wanted a plain old 1901. In addition, and no big hoards have turned up. PCGS, for all its years of grading, has only churned out 42 graded this high, and get this, just 15 graded higher! Waiting for a gem could take decades, if one could be located, much less if you could afford the asking price! Thus, we are proud to offer this delightful example for our friends and clients, as any who know this date well will be certain to regard it for what it is, a great rarity in uncirculated grades.
Estimated Value $7,000 - 9,000.

Realized $11,500
