Lot 1473

1894-O Morgan Dollar. PCGS graded MS-65. Although this date was known to turn up in the Treasury releases, circa 1963, very few were found in higher mint state grades. This particular example has blazing mint luster in the fields and full and complete frost and no signs of toning aside from a light haze on the obverse. We note one minor scrape on Liberty's face which begins behind her nose and moves a short distance down towards the junction of her jaw where her hair resides. Remarkably, the PCGS Population Report shows only 6 graded this high, with none graded higher, similar at NGC where they report 2 graded this high, with none graded higher. Thus, it is reasonable to assume that this is one of the very finest known of this date, certainly in the top 10 which all qualify as MS-65 by todays rigorous standards. An important and unusual opportunity to purchase this very rare date in full gem condition.
Estimated Value $30,000 - 35,000.
