Confederate Sponge Bucket, Richmond Virginia in Very Fine Found Condition. Civil War, Confederate sponge bucket found in Richmond, VA. Sponge buckets were made of sheet iron and held water dipping a sponge to clean out the bore when washing out the cannon. The bottoms were turned over the sides and were riveted together as in this piece. The swivel eye on the handle used to attach to the axle strap on the gun carriage. The information on this piece was carefully lettered in white on one side of the bucket. A great find. Condition: appears bucket may have been relined/riveted but certainly during the period due to damage to the original bottom which adds considerable interest. Estimated Value $500 - 900

Realized $313
