Lot 547

Two large Kachinas by Chester Poleyestewa, Acclaimed, Highly Collected Kachina Carver, "White Ogre" and "Morning Kachina". Hopi carver Chester Polyestewa has been making Kachinas since he was a young boy. His Kachinas are made in the old, traditional manner using cottonwood roots and the same style that the Hope people have given to their own children for centuries. They are painted with natural dyes and mineral paints that he makes himself. The finishing touches are beautiful feathers, Angora goat hair, deerskin and his exceptional feather work. He is a well-known carver whose work is sought after by collectors around the world. Offered are two large examples of his work, "White Ogre" (21" tall including feathers) and "Morning Kachina" (19" tall including feathers. Both in excellent condition and very representative of Chester's work. Both are signed and titled on underside and very desirable given their size. Estimated Value $250 - 800
From the Collection of Sally Ann Skeoch.
