Two Very Unusual Kachinas: "Mudhead" and "Corn Boy". Two unusual Kachinas
1.) "Mudhead" function as chiefs during the season called Kwiyamuya, and as clowns at other times. They are probably the most popular and recognized of all Kachinas. They appear in almost every ceremony as clowns, drummers, announcers of dances, and other roles. Offered is an outstanding carving made even more special with a child on the back of the adult Mudhead also dressed in the traditional garb. Quite different and exceptionally well done, carved by Hin. Price of $500 still present under base with artists signature. Great piece. 10" tall.
2.) "Corn Boy" Kachina by Hopi artist, William Huma, with a body of that of an ear of corn, the kernels resplendent in dark gold and turquoise the headdress quite tradition centered with a blossom. A lot of detail in this fine Kachina. 7" tall. Estimated Value $250 - 400
From the Collection of Sally Ann Skeoch.
