Bryant, William Cullen ALS + James Russell Lowell ALS, Both Celebrated Romantic Poets of the 19th Century. Civil War Content in Lowell Letter (1794-1878) William Cullen Bryant was an acclaimed romantic but was also a journalist and long-time editor of the New York Evening Post. Autograph letter signed and dated to Elliott C. Cowden on New York Evening Post note card dated May 25, 1874 having to turn down an offer to attend and event in Boston due to great pain in his right shoulder and his family advising not to make the trip. 7 x 4¼" framed and matted beautifully with engraving to 16½ x 19½" All in excellent condition.
(1819-1891) James Russell Lowell Civil War era ALS where he writes enthusiastically "I couldn't send a bare signature to a state that has sent two hundred thousand men to fight the battles of us all & whose regiments bear on their tattered flags the names of our most glorious victories dated Cambridge 29th November 1864 signed "J.R. Lowell" 7 x 4½" framed and matted to 13 x 15". Estimated Value $600 - 1,000
