Hirschfeld, Al. "Kabuki: Bunraki" Signed Edition 181/275. (1903-2003) Al Hirschfeld combined black and white linear drawing with portraiture to develop one of the most innovative and iconic visual languages. Known as one of the most influential caricaturists in history, Hirschfeld went on to capture countless celebrities and Broadway stars with little more than his expressive black lines; a career with the NY Times spanning 75 years.
Lithograph from a series of Kabuki performances that inspired Hirschfeld to illustrate his most colorful works. "Kabuki: Bunraki" stands apart as it was one of the few capturing a performance by actors. Again superb colors in this lithograph signed in pencil by Hirschfeld on the far right bottom corner and numbered 181/275. In superior condition litho measures 22 x 31½" and is presented in a cloth board mat. Estimated Value $600 - 1,000
