Goldberg Coins and Collectibles

Sale 128

Lot 627

$10 National Bank Note. First NB of Portland, CT. Ch. 1013. Fr. 412a. PMG Very Fine 30. Chartered in April 1865, this was the only bank to charter in town, and would last until March of 1925. This is one of only two Original Series Tens known on the bank. The back of this Ten is absolutely gorgeous. The American Bank Note Company engraving of "DeSoto Discovering the Mississippi" is depicted on back, and this example rivals any uncirculated Ten you will find for clarity and color. Beautiful pen signatures of William Coe as Cashier and S. Gildersleeve as President. Both served together from 1866 until 1878. Some light water stains are barely noticed but mentioned on the back of the holder. Estimated Value $1,500 - UP

Realized $2,100
