Theodosius II, AD 402-450. Gold Solidus (4.5 g.). Mint of Constantinople, AD 441. Helmeted and cuirassed bust of Theodosius II three-quarter face to r., holding spear and shield. Reverse: UIRT EXERC ROM (no officina mark). Soldier advancing r., hd. facing, dragging captive by the hair with r. hand and holding trophy over shoulder in l., star in right field, mint mark CON OB in exergue. S-21152; D.O. 432. Very lustrous, well struck and well centered. Mint State. Estimated Value $1,000 - UP
This issue refers to a military campaign against the Sasanid Persians in AD 441 that is closely based on an issue of Julian II struck about 80 years earlier.
