Roosevelt, Franklin D., TLS on White House Letterhead, 1939 to Joseph P. Kennedy US Ambassador to England + Marguerite Le Hand Letters (1882-1945) President Roosevelt writes to his ambassador in the United Kingdom, Joseph P. Kennedy regarding the arrival of a close friend of his and Eleanor's. "….in case anything blows up in England while she is there, I know you will do your best. As ever yours, Franklin D. Roosevelt". 8¾ 6¼" on White House stationery with Roosevelt's signature executed in steel-tip fountain pen. Of note is the precarious time (July, 1939) to travel to London given Germany's march across Europe had begun.
Joseph P. Kennedy (1888-1969) was Roosevelt's ambassador to the UK, patriarch of a political dynasty, hugely successful businessman and wielded significant influence in politics. But ultimately Roosevelt did not see eye to Kennedy on his Isolationist stance with regards to the pending war and was recalled serving less than 3 years.
