Itzchak Tarkay. "Tea Time". (1935-2012) Celebrated Serbian/Israeli artist, Itzchak Tarkay, was influenced by the work of both Henri Matisse and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Tarkay’s expressive use of colors in his watercolors and paintings is why he remained so popular Born in Subotica, Serbia, Tarkay and family settled in Israel after Allied forces freed them from a Nazi concentration camp during World War II. The artist went on to study at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem and later the Avni Institute of Art and Design in Tel Aviv. Later in life, Tarkay mentored younger Israeli artists, including Yaacov Agam and Yuval Wolfson.
"Tea Time" is a glorious example of Tarkay's work boasting bold and stunning colors and yet the mood is serene and contemplative. Canvas is 36 x 26" and very nicely framed to 46 x 36". Excellent condition.
