Rare Original Costume Sketch for Bette Davis THE VIRGIN QUEEN by Mary Wills (1914-1997) Seven time Oscar Nominee for Costume Design and winning for THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF THE BROTHERS GRIM, Mary Wills was very influential in her costume designs most especially with the advent and dominance of color film. She had an remarkable eye for colors and how they would translate on film.
From the 1955 historical drama "THE VIRGIN QUEEN" starring Bette Davis, Richard Todd, Rod Taylor, Joan Collins and Herbert Marshall. Wills was nominated for Costume Design. Original gouache and colors sketch 18 x 14½" signed by Mary Wills. Also included is the costume test photo with Bette Davis and Wills clearly credited on blackboard. Estimated Value $600 - 1,000
