24 Signed Pieces by Late 19th Century to Mid 20th Century Composers: Gershwin, Massenet, Hofmann, Cohan, Thomson, Elgar, Bernstein & More. Fine collection of autographs (24 total) by some of the most influential American and European composers from the late 19th Century to mid-20th Century. A diverse collection of signed photos, letters, album sheets calling cards and the like.
Included are: An autograph note signed by French composer Jules Massenet, Two (2) signed pieces by Ira Gershwin (a French document and a 3 x 5" card) Josef Hofman autograph letter signed on his Aiken, SC letter head dated Dec. 29th 1922 thanking a Mr. Summer for his holiday gift, Virgil Thomson has signed four 3 x 5 cards, George M. Cohan has signed a large autograph on album page, Erwin Straus signed 8 x 10" photo, cut signatures by Arthur Foote, Luigi Arditi Italian composer and violinist, George Balch Nevin two cut signatures by English composer Edward Elgar. three autographs by Irving Berlin, 12 assorted pieces signed by Virgil Thomson, photos listed from books, programs and magazines, a signed 8x10" photograph by Eric Siegmeister and a typed letter signed dated 1947 as President of Song Writers' Protective Association letter head by Sigmund Romberg
Collection also boasts four superb autographs by Leonard Bernstein: Superior signed cover of NEWSWEEK from September, 1962, an excellent 5½ x 3½" signed portrait photograph, a 3 x 5" card ideally inscribed and signed, "Best Wishes, Leonard Bernstein" and an autographed front page news article from the Lawrence Eagle-Tribune from 1983 on the occasion of his 65th birthday and homecoming in Lawrence Massachusetts. Finally from Henry Mancini an inscribed and signed 8x10" B&W photo and a bold autograph on a 3 x 5" card.
Collection also contains two vintage original Carte de Visites, one of Joseph Haydn and one of Ludwig van Beethoven, both 3½ x 2½". Estimated Value $600 - 1,000
