Lot 667

1955. Doubled die obverse. PCGS graded AU-50. A very nice example. This is one of the most popular of the doubled dies due to its extremely dramatic doubling, relative rarity and long inclusion in the general Lincoln Cent albums. Collectors far and wide have searched through countless bags of cents looking for an example, and of course these are rarely found. Many in fact were released through cigarette vending machines in 1955, as the cost of a pack of cigarettes was 23 cents, so two pennies would be tucked into the celephane wrapper as change for a quarter--and the vast majority of these prized doubled dies were released into circulation through this method (PCGS # 2825) Estimated Value $1,000 - 1,100

Realized $1,500
