Lot 527

1794 S-62 R4+ PCGS graded VF30. Attractive glossy chocolate brown. Looks smooth to the unaided eye but the planchet is covered with very faint roughness that is mostly hidden under the glossy toning. The devices are a few shades lighter than the fields giving this piece an attractive two-tone appearance. No verdigris and the only marks are some very faint hairline scratches hidden in the toning on the obverse. Scarce EDS, Breen state I, before the large cud break that formed rather early on the left side of the obverse. Graded F15 net VG10 by Noyes, his photo #59914. Del Bland graded it F12. Our grade is net VG10+ (but with the eye appeal of a slightly higher grade). A decent example of the scarce early die state. The attribution and Alfonso Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; 4 finer. Estimated Value $2,000 - UP
