Lot 494

1793 S-14 R5- Liberty Cap PCGS graded F12. Rather glossy steel brown and chocolate with lighter brown and tan in protected areas. The highpoints are smooth but the remainder of the planchet shows fine granularity. No verdigris, just light contact marks including some nicks and faint hairlines, mostly on the obverse. A half dozen fine, parallel scratches at the rim left of the bottom of the cap can help identify this cent. MDS, Breen state I. The always present bisecting die crack on the obverse is clear. The date and legends are complete and easily readable. Graded F15 sharpness net VG8 by Noyes, his photo #62445. Our grade is net VG8. The attribution and Dr. Cadden Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. Estimated Value $10,000 - UP
Ex Heritage Auctions 4/2015:4919 ($18,800)-Chris McCawley 5/2/2015-Dr. Mark Cadden Collection.
