Lot 487

1793 S-4 R3 Chain AMERICA with Periods PCGS graded VF20. Rather glossy steel and olive brown with lighter steel brown toning on the devices. No verdigris or notable roughness, just a few light contact marks. The notable marks are a fine, old scratch under RTY and a minor rim bruise at AM in AMERICA. In addition there is a thin planchet fissure or void along the rim under the lower curls, and this curious feature has been seen on a few other examples of the variety. The date and legends are complete and strong, and the Periods feature is bold in both places. EDS, Breen state I, before any die cracks at the lower curls. A nice mid-grade example of this popular "Redbook" variety. Our grade is F15. The attribution and Dr. Cadden Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. Estimated Value $15,000 - UP
Ex Greg Hannigan 3/2/2019-Dr. Mark Cadden Collection.
