Lot 24

1841 N-7 R2 PCGS graded MS62 Brown, CAC Approved. Glossy light to medium brown with mint frost covering the protected areas on both sides. A sharp cent that looks mint state but there is a trace of rub on the highest points of the devices. The best identifying marks, and they are trivial, are a tiny swipe of darker toning above the tip of the nose and a small planchet flake left of the top of the U in UNITED (as struck). There is some loose dirt in protected areas, especially on the reverse. Looks like a cent that would benefit from a proper bath to uncover more of the luster. Sharply struck EDS, die state a, with tiny lumps below the date and all the fine die lines clear. Our grade is AU55. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; 3 finer: 2 in 64, 1 in 65. Estimated Value $700 - UP
Ex Heritage Auctions 1/2017:8186-John McBride 6/20/2020 (lot ticket included).
