Lot 911

1872-CC. PCGS graded AU-53. Mostly untoned with silver gray dominating the surfaces, the periphery has delicate golden russet accents. A strong loup finds little record from brief circulation, with no deep or distracting marks, and traces of residual luster here and there. The original mintage of 3,150 pieces was reduced by time and attrition to where approximately 400 exist today from this modest issue. Perhaps 20 or so are mint state, the others from this select surviving group are circulated. Most show far more wear and circulation evidence than seen on this piece, and for collectors to even obtain an example requires patience. The 1872-CC remains one of the most challenging issues from this series. Reflective fields enhance the already high eye appeal. A scarce "CC" Mint dollar. Pop 7; 41 finer at PCGS. (PCGS # 6969) Estimated Value $7,000 - 7,500
