Lot 720

1863. NGC graded MS-66+. During the depths of the Civil War, this 1863 quarter was struck. Even casual examination will quickly discover that it is essentially "as struck" with near perfect surfaces, a bold strike and no signs of mishandling anywhere. The only evidence of time passing is a touch of light golden toning which accents the devices. Although a fair number of these exist in mint state, the present one is tied for the finest seen of the entire issue with just a couple of others. Important for the Civil War date, and carefully preserved for generations since. Highly collectible and a wonderful representative of the No Motto type. A frosty white gem. Boldly struck. Pop 1; tied with 2 PCGS MS-66+ for the finest examples graded at both services. Estimated Value $6,000 - UP
