Lot 657

1814. Large date. JR-4. Rarity-2. PCGS graded MS-65. Frosty and lightly toned with wonderfully original antique russet gold hues that accent the stars and devices, while the fields and central devices are bright silver and frosty. Amazing quality when examined, with no signs of handling or distracitng marks, as one expects for a gem grade. This is quite exceptional for an early dime of this era, and precious few are around that merit such a lofty grade based on their preservation. Here is one that does! The reverse die shows several thin die cracks as it was truly on its last legs when this coin was struck, with several cracks connecting within the fine vertical shield lines near the center of that side. Quite impressive quality, and a delightfuly appealing coin. Pop 7; 6 finer, 1 in 65+, 5 in 66. (PCGS # 4488) Estimated Value $8,000 - 8,500
