Lot 17

1802/0 C-2 R3 Overdate 2 over 0 with Reverse of 1803 PCGS graded VF25. Medium chocolate brown and steel. The surfaces are smooth and the only notable marks are several microscopic pinpricks in the field before the mouth and one more below the L in LIBERTY. None of these tiny marks is visible to the unaided eye. This looks like a half cent that has never been brushed or touched for over 150 years. The surfaces are a bit dull from natural oxidation and there are microscopic traces of loose dirt in the protected areas on both sides. E-MDS, Manley state 2.0, with die lines between the I & B in LIBERTY and a closed curl left of the date. The date and legends are complete and clear and the overdate feature is obvious to the unaided eye. Our grade is F15+, close to VF20 (and probably at that level following a proper brushing). A really nice example of this very popular overdate variety, at the lower end of the condition census. A highlight of the Raymond Gatzke half cent collection. Estimated Value $4,000 - UP
Ex JMS Coins (Idaho)-Raymond Gatzke Collection.
