Judea, Jewish War. Silver Shekel (13.2 g), Year Two, April 67 - March 68 CE. Shekel of Israel, Year 2 in Paleo-Hebrew); around above Omer cup with beads and pearled rim, the base is raised by projections on ends. Reverse: In Paleo-Hebrew, Jerusalem the holy; staff with three pomegranate buds, round base. Hendin 1358; TJC 193; AJC 8. Boldly struck on a slightly porous flan. Removed from a 14K gold mount with signs of edge filing.

Always in demand as the famous Jewish Shekel of the Great Revolt against Rome, 66 to 70 CE. when disorganized insurgent groups of Jews challenged the might of the Roman Empire and minted coins of precious metal. Estimated Value $4,000 - UP
