Lot 1293

1909-D. PCGS graded MS-65. A tiny mark in the obverse otherwise MS-66 or better. A hint of orange gold tone with hints of the usual greenish gold intermixed. The strike is bold on Liberty's headdress and the eagle too, right up to his tiny breast feathers. A condition rarity at this lofty grade level and one of the top dozen or so graded by PCGS. The mintage of 121,540 pieces has been reduced by melting to something a tad over 4,000 pieces today, about half of which are mint state. Here is a memorable and enticing example of this sought after date in gem condition. A visually impressive coin in every way. Pop 6; 7 finer, 1 in 65+, 4 in 66, 2 in 67. (PCGS # 8863) Estimated Value $35,000 - UP
