Goldberg Coins and Collectibles

Sale 122

Lot 1282

1868. NGC graded MS-61. Light to moderate bag marks as nearly always seen on these gold eagles from this era. The surfaces are lustrous and retain a good amount of eye appeal. Of course what really makes this coin desirable is the rarity in all grades. Despite a moderate mintage, mint state pieces today are all but unheard of for this date and mint. The finest is MS-62 at PCGS and MS-61+ DPL at NGC. Nearly all of the 175 or so pieces that survived from this period are circulated. Here is one of the finest certified and a desirable coin at this level of preservation. An untoned example. Only 10,630 struck. Pop 3; 2 finer, 1 in 61 Prooflike, 1 in 61+ Deep Prooflike. (PCGS # 8653) Estimated Value $12,000 - UP
*This coin contains the COIN WORLD PLUS sticker.
