Lot 1281

1853-O. NGC graded MS-62. Fully untoned with reflective fields on both sides, with minimal signs of handling keeping the technical grade high as well as the eye appeal. An important New Orleans issue which is nearly always found well circulated and never this well preserved. In fact, this is one of the finest graded by either grading service and a classic condition rarity that will no doubt elicit considerable attention from date and mint specialists. Looks like a special striking or at least an early strike from the dies as they are so fresh and imparted a slightly reflective nature to the fields. Only 51,000 struck, and this coin is clearly tied for the finest example to survive with just one other coin. Pop 1; tied with a PCGS MS-62 for the finest examples graded at both services. (PCGS # 8612) Estimated Value $25,000 - UP
