Lot 114

1840 N-2 R2 Small 18 over Large 18 EF40. Ten points sharper but recolored reddish tan and steel brown with a splash of dark olive toning on the reverse. The details are sharp but the retoning was not done with much skill. Perhaps a proper recoloring would help. No contact marks, just a light touch of friction on the highpoints. LDS, die state b, with a rim cud break under 840. In addition there is a thin extension of the rim cud from below the 8 to right of star 13, a small but clearly defined rim cud below star 1, and a smaller one even with the bottom of star 3. A neat die state, rarely seen with all the cuds visible. The Small 18 over Large 18 feature is a bit dull from flowlines but it is still obvious. Estimated Value $175 - UP
Ex Coin Galleries 7/21/1982:1272 ($200)-the RES Collection (lot ticket included).
