The Artists of Space: Signed Pieces by 3 Artists who Influenced NASA's Image, US Postal Stamps and The Movies. One Large Original Work. Every space collector certainly knows the following two names, Robert McCall and Paul Calle. A third, Paul Van Hoeydonck maybe a bit less.
Robert McCall's work can be seen in countless NASA concept drawing, museum murals, postal stamps and the like. But he is also known world wide for the film posters he created for Stanley Kubrick's 2001: a space odyssey. In this lot are five (5) signed pieces by Robert McCall. The best is a 7½ x 10" original illustration he has even titled "Life Springs from the Primordial Sea, signed and dated in upper right corner Robert McCall, February, '93. Comes with LOA by Steve Zarelli. The other pieces are a signed exhibition book (Japanese printing and language but the titles of the art are in English as well. A spectacular overview of McCall's career. The other pieces are covers but all of the stamps are indeed his art.
Paul Calle: Another great illustrator with a long history at NASA and creating postal stamps. Six signed pieces, three (3) covers with stamps he has designed and 3 8 x 10 photographs of concept and illustrated art all autographed near his printed signature with one at Soyuz training facility especially great.
Paul Van Hoeydonck is the Belgium artist who created a small stylized astronaut figure in aluminum, intended to commemorate the astronauts and cosmonauts who have died in the advancement of space exploration. It was commissioned and placed on the Moon by the crew of Apollo 15 at Hadley Rille on August 1, 1971, next to a plaque listing the 14 men known who died. Hoeydonck has signed a 4 x 5" color photo of the intallation on the moon. Estimated Value $400 - UP
