19th Century & Early 20th Century Justices: Supreme Court of DC Walter S. Cox, Supreme Court: Roger Taney, Charles Hughes & Melvill Fuller. Rare signed pieces by Supreme Court Justices. From the 19th Century: 1.) Walter S. Cox, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of Washington DC 1879-1899 signed gilt edged calling card 2 x 3½". He is included in this collection do to presiding over the trial of Charles Guiteau for the assassination of President James Garfield. 2.) Roger B. Taney, Chief Justice from 1836-1864 initialed warrant "RBT" when an attorney in Frederick, Maryland dated 1818, 4½ x 8". 3.) Melville W. Fuller, Chief Justice from 1888-1910, TLS on blank note paper measuring 8 x 5" declining invitation to dinner in honor of the Secretary of War dated 1903. 4.) Charles Evans Hughes, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court from 1930-1941; large, elegant signature on appointment while Secretary of State dated 1922 and a large signature nicely clipped from a document dated 1928 measuring 2¾ x 4¾" All pieces in fine condition.
