Roosevelt, Theodore: Collection of Signed Pieces, TLS by T. Roosevelt and Signed Letters, Postcards and Covers by Wife and Children. The President Theodore Roosevelt Collection :
1.) (1858-1919) The 26th President of the United States had certainly distinguished himself earlier as a New York State Assemblyman and noted for his impressive efforts on the state level in the 1884 Presidential election which earned him a national reputation. In 1886 he ran for mayor of New York City, lost, then campaigned for Benjamin Harrison in the Midwest. In return, President Harrison appointed him to be President of the Civil Service Commission. Roosevelt took the position very seriously which previously had been one known for spoils and cronyism. He enforced the laws and trimmed the fat as can be seen in this TLS 10½ x 8½" executed on commission letterhead dated August 25, 1893. Roosevelt demands information from the Collector of Customs in San Francisco regarding nine employees, questioning their eligibility and reinstatement and pointing out a potential error. Signed "T. Roosevelt", both the signature and the document are in excellent condition. We are including a typed letter stamped as Governor of NY dated 1900 inviting assemblymen to dinner.
2.) First Lady, Mrs. Theodore Roosevelt 2 x 3" signing envelope as Mrs. Roosevelt on cover. As Edith Kermit Roosevelt, one autograph on Nine Sutton Place stationery, 7 x 4" dated 1926 signed as Kermit Roosevelt and one autograph note signed dated 1931 signed as Edith K. Roosevelt.
3.) Six pieces by oldest daughter Alice Roosevelt Longworth, a favorite in DC for decades known for her sulfuric wit sparing no one. TLS signed and dated 1912 on behalf of "Colonel Roosevelt" on Progressive National Committee, the others pieces, four postcards and a large profile of her in People Magazine.
4.) Ethel Roosevelt represented here with handwritten note, unsigned, but on Mrs. Richard Derby, Vermont note card 5½ x 3¼" and autographs on a postcard and a First Day Issue of Canal Zone cover with Teddy Roosevelt stamp along with sister Alice Roosevelt's signature.
5.) Archibald B. Roosevelt, Commander during WWI and WWII and wounded in each war is the 5th son of Teddy Roosevelt. He has signed a postal card dated 1974 addressed and signed in his hand and a White House Card dated July 25, 1973. Estimated Value $1,000 - UP
