McKinley, William 25th President of the United States Two Documents Signed: One as President, One as Governor of Ohio (1843-1901 assassinated) McKinley succeeded Grover Cleveland as the 25th President of the United States after a fine career as a member of Congress and the Governor of Ohio. He was fatally shot on September 6, 1901 by Leon Czolgosz, dying eight days letter with incompetent assistance by his physicians. Historians have dramatically revised the early evaluations of McKinley's leadership and impact on US politics and now rank him well above average as a US President. Offered are two documents signed. 1.) As President, an appointment for Ernest Mann as Consul to Germany dated March 8, 1891. This appointment measures 18 x 24", is in excellent folded condition with only two small stains and McKinley's signature extremely bold and large. Appointment is co-signed by John Hay, Secretary of State. 2.) Appointment issued by McKinley in 1892 as Governor of Ohio appointing a Charles Van Houten as Justice of the Peace.
