Soviet Porcelain Figure. Soviet-era porcelain folk tale figure, probably post-World War II. Height: 10". Beautifully detailed, hand-painted figure holds a feather while another drags behind him, this is probably Prince Ivan with feathers from the Firebird ("Ivanov" is written on the base). The State Porcelain Factory's green hammer and sickle mark is partially worn away, "EK" in cyrillic letters in a crescent or shield is impressed, "510111" and another, obliterated, mark are present on the bottom. Two very small areas of repair at bottom of tunic and minor paint loss at fold of pantaloons. Very good condition.

With Soviet porcelain becoming increasingly collectible (and the prices going up accordingly), we are pleased to offer this wonderful piece. The noble Prince Ivan, portrayed so beautifully here, was a popular figure in Russian folk lore and a natural subject for this medium, as under Soviet rule (with much subject matter deemed politically risky) Russian porcelain artists came to rely on traditional folk tales for inspiration.
Estimated Value $600 - 800.

Realized $920
