Lot 829

Meissen-style Vase. Probably 19th century. Height: 14½", 7¼" at widest point. Distinctive Meissen-style vase, flattened baluster form, with painted panels and gold trim. One side painted with rendering of an impressive mosque, the other with a depiction of a warrior on a gold field; both paintings are signed "AM". "1748" and "D" are incised in the bottom of the vase, which looks like it may have originally been tinted orange. There are finish flaws in the blue and gold ground on the sides, bottom and top of the vase -- including two small spots of paint loss. One of the bottom corners has broken off and the area was retouched (this is not an obvious flaw, as the paintings draw the eye more than any other feature), there are minor flecks in the bodies of the paintings. An impressive piece reflecting the European fascination with the exotic, in good condition.
Estimated Value $400 - 500.
