Apollo 15: (REVISED LISTING) 70 MM Film Magazine Tri-Sectioned Stowage Bag Intended for Lunar Surface, Tagged 'LM', Dick Underwood Collection (1927-2011) Richard "Dick" Underwood was chief engineer on the production of the first topographic maps of the moon. He was the first person to view every photograph from the Gemini, Apollo, Skylab, Apollo-Soyuz and the first 23 space shuttle missions. He also provided technical training to every astronaut who went into space in the 20th Century. From Underwood's collection, a phenomenal Apollo 15 artifact. A tri-sectioned bag made of beta cloth that Moonwalkers David Scott and Jim Irwin during training would drop their Hasselblad film magazines once shot to capacity. Each Velcro flap is tagged 70mm MAG with a center sewn tab has "LM" (Lunar Module) boldly printed. 5 x 4 x 10" the stowage bag has no parts number sewn, someone hand printed "S", "T" and "U" on the flaps, and it has has three Velcro strips underneath bag. Outside of bag clean, just slightest hint age toning, but inside has scattered grey coloration and speckles especially within the sewn seams. There are also scribbled on the bag number of photos taken by each magazine.

Also found in bag was a Post-It note that reads in all caps "APOLLO 15 LUNAR MODULE HASSELBLAD MAGAZINE STORAGE BAG. WENT TO SURFACE OF THE MOON" and signed Richard Underwood. An important piece of provenance included but stowage bag also has a prepared LOA from the family. ****

**** Two great fans/experts in space ephemera most definitely agree with the authenticity of the bag. What cannot be proved, irrefutably, is that it was flown to the moon aside from the handwritten note included in the bag with Dick Underwood's signature and comments. We agree, that irrespective of the peerless provenance, there is no definitive proof it was on the moon. We are now selling as of the period and clearly evident that it was used for training. The other issue is there is no stamped parts number on the side as is the one in the Air and Space Museum in Washington DC. Estimated Value $3,500 - UP

Realized $9,600
