[Napoleon I] -- Seven Friends and Foes Who Were On St. Helena With the Exiled Emperor, Including Plampin, Bertrand, Lowe, and Montholon. Group of seven items: Alexndre Antonovitch de Balmain, Russian Commissioner on St. Helena, an 1821 ALS; Henri Gratien Bertrand, Fr. general, Chamberlain, Grand Marshal of the Palace on S.H., April 1, 1815 LS to the Minister of War; Gaspar Gourgand, Major domo, Baron of the Empire (rebuked by Napoleon for challenging Montholon to a duel), 1830 LS to the Grand Marshal of Baden; Sir Hudson Lowe, Governor of S.H. during Napoleon's exile, c. 1837 ALS in 3rd person; Charles Tristan, Comte de Montholon, French general who chose to go into exile with Napoleon on St. Helena (suspected of poisoning Napoleon), 1825 LS; Robert Plampin, British Royal Naval officer who commanded St. Helena while Napoleon was there, 1819 LS re supples on a ship; and Barry O'Meara, Napoleon's physician on St. Helena, 1820 ALS sending a sample of N's handwriting (not present).
