Dick Underwood Collection of Video, Audio and 16mm Film From His Collection While Working AT NASA (1927-2011) Richard "Dick" Underwood was chief engineer on the production of the first topographic maps of the moon. He was the first person to view every photograph from the Gemini, Apollo, Skylab, Apollo-Soyuz and the first 23 space shuttle missions. He also provided technical training to every astronaut who went into space in the 20th Century. Offered is a collection 16 reel to reel audio tapes, the great majority labeled ASTP he held onto for years. Also are two full reels of 16mm film. The reel without a film can the leader reads Apollo XI and MA-6 as well as NASA MSC. Film remains supple and after pulling about 10' of film, the frames become clean and scratch-free. The other reel is marked "Major Advancements in the Manned Space Flight Program" 33 minutes. Inside can a Production Scene List Locator prepared by the Public Affair's Office lists scene descriptions with topics such as "Astro While Weightless", "Fuel Burn Test". "Man in Gondola", "Rotating Centrifuge" "Shake Test Apollo Saturn Model" "Gemini FSTV Drop", "SA-6 Launch" and much more. Film has remained quite clean and supple. Finally three 3/4" tapes entitled "NASA…….THE 25TH YEAR" dated 9/20/83 (no running time), " "World's Fair Presentation" dated 7/16/84, 15 mins. long and "Space Station Next Logical Step" dated 10/23/84, also 15 mins.
Goldberg Auctions has not previewed or listened to any of these items but know all have been in the collection of Dick Underwood and comes with an LOA from the family. Estimated Value $300 - UP
