Three (3) Russian Lacquer Boxes from Palekh, Two By the Russian Collection: A Sumptuous Fairy Tale, a Queen and Stunning Sleigh Scene. Palekh lacquer boxes are Russian folk handicraft of a miniature painting, which is done with tempera paints on varnished articles made of papier-mâché ranging in sizes suitable for many uses. They are painted with local bright paints over the black background and are known for their delicate and smooth design, abundance of golden shading, and accurate silhouettes of flattened figures, which often cover the surface of the lids and sides of the articles completely. Palekh is the most renowned of four such famous villages who are known for creating traditional craft boxes.
A lot of three lacquer boxes. 1.) The largest a fairly tale wedding of such remarkable detail, gleaming from gilt gold details down to the smallest leaves, the sheerest fabric. From the Russian Collection, 1½ x 4½ x 6". 2.) Lovely oval box boasting a fairy tale queen of Earth and sky, the colors, magnificent. Signed by artist on verso, 1 x 3 x 5". 3.) Gorgeous winter scene of sleigh drivers and a young couple. Note the remarkable detail and colors of the horses and the gilt gold and red bridles, makes this box a stand out.
